Joyce Keeney

Joyce Keeney has an effective and straightforward way to define her approach to interior design. “The four Ps” – passion, performance, product and patience – have been the hallmark of her successful career, a journey that has taken her from her native Delaware, through most of Europe and now to the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Joyce pointed out that earning success in the world of interior design is more than simply choosing the right furniture and accessories. Instead, it’s all about asking the right questions, using your experience, expertise and intuition and determining exactly what the client wants.

“As an interior designer, it’s my job to give my clients what they are looking for. I make certain to deliver my client’s signature in the design so that their home is an extension of who they are,” she said.

“You have to love what you do in order for your work to be truly beautiful,” said Joyce, who grew up in Wilmington, Delaware. “My passion for what I do keeps me on the cutting edge of interior design and always leaves me yearning for more insight, more styles and better products.”

Joyce discovered and developed her passion for interior design and architecture while she was touring the historic cities of Europe as a young woman. She engrossed herself in the culture and art she saw on the continent and was inspired by the architectural genius she found as she traveled extensively throughout 10 different countries.

Joyce has another important connection to Europe besides her experience across the Atlantic Ocean. She comes from an Italian immigrant family and continues to visit her family in the old country, thereby enhancing her European design expertise. Her heritage has sharpened her ability to incorporate the unique elements that have defined the design environment along East Coast of the United States. For nearly four decades, she has helped provide the inspiration for elegant yet functional homes for residents of Delaware and South Carolina.

“Despite my beautiful European collection of fine furniture and accessories, I enjoy the coastal styling of the Lowcountry, and I have expanded my portfolio to include this genre,” she pointed out.

In Delaware, Joyce founded her own interior design firm in 1983. As CEO and head designer at Interior Concepts, she excelled in the Delaware News Journal’s Reader’s Choice Awards, earning the title of “Best Interior Designer.” Also, her fine furnishings store in Northern Delaware claimed a pair of Best of Delaware awards from Delaware Today magazine: “Best Home Furnishings” and “Best Art.”

In addition to her professional and personal experience, Joyce was formally trained in interior design at the University of Delaware and Delaware College of Art and Design. Her extensive portfolio ranges from preconstruction planning to all aspects of residential interior design, model home merchandising and assisted living.
